dreamhost不如宣传的那么好
如果你准备买dreamhost的空间,请你一定要慎重考虑。
昨天晚上数据库服务器出了问题。根本无法登录。请看这个通知:部分网络变慢。我正好在浏览我的网站,根本无法显示,一直在连接状态,只好写信去询问。客服马上回信:

Our apologies for what appears to be a delay in service. After we use the below responses for logging and testing, we may need to move you to a better suited web server (though this is not guaranteed at this time).
Does the downtime or slowness affect certain domains on your account, or all?
Is this site-wide, or page-specific?
Are all of these pages database driven, or also static?
If using a database, which one? (provide database name, not hostname)
Are downloads from the site/FTP affected as well as site load times?
Please run a traceroute the next time this may happen. This will help us look into your connection to our servers:
For PC:

From the Start menu, select Run
In the “Open:” box, type cmd (Windows NT, 2000, and XP) or command (Windows 95, 98, and Me)
To Domain/Hosting Server: at the command prompt, enter tracert domain.com (replaced with actual domain name)
To Mail Server: at the command prompt, enter tracert mail.domain.com (replaced with actual domain name)
To MySQL Server: at the command prompt, enter tracert mysql-hostname.domain.com (replaced with actual MySQL hostname)
Save the output of the traceroute program as a text file by entering the following command, replaced with hour actual domain name: tracert domain > test.txt
Copy and paste the results of test.txt in a reply to support.
For MAC OS X:

Open Terminal (found in Applications–>Utilities–>Terminal)
To Domain/Hosting Server: enter traceroute domain.com (replaced with actual domain name)
To Mail Server: enter traceroute mail.domain.com (replaced with actual domain name)
To MySQL Server: enter traceroute mysql-hostname.domain.com (replaced with actual MySQL hostname)
Copy and paste those results to us for investigation.

我按照要求回答了他问的几个问题,回信不久网站就恢复了,而且速度不错。在上面的信中一开始Jeff提到将我的东西挪到一个比较好的服务器。因为我威胁撤出dreamhost,他还单独回复了一封信,说只要我回信答应换,就帮我安排到比较好的服务器去。下面是另外一封信。
Hello,
Before you consider that, I will now offer to move your account to a server that has proven better reliability in both uptime and load averages. There will be downtime associated with this move, however it will be minimal as service on your current server remains active while the transfer is in progress. There will be no loss of data or need to re-add services via the control panel as all of this is automated in our script. The only major changes will be that of the location of your content which you will receive further details on from the system once completed.
The complete process done by us will physically take about 20-60 minutes, while DNS will need to propagate to the new server over 72 hours.
If you are interested, please reply with the best time to initiate this move and we will do our best to complete it at said time.
I’ll be awaiting your response as to resolve the issue as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you have any other problems, just let us know.

尽管dreamhost是一帮年青人在经营,朝气蓬勃,服务态度很好,但是dreamhost实力的确不怎么样。我还是推荐godaddy,速度很不错,也很稳定,我从来没有遇到过当机或者域名不能解析的事情。大公司还是实力强些。要不是有人强烈向我鼓吹dreamhost我绝对不会上这条“贼”船。
如果你现在登录dreamhost网站,现在又多了一条通知。spacey主机的文件服务器出了问题,连接很慢,甚至当机了!Slowness and downtime on spacey。前几天月光博客站长还碰到域名不能解析的问题。
